Part 3 - Degree Audit Report (DARS)

Degree Audit Report Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What schools are on the DARS system?

All California community colleges, some California state universities, and a few other schools are on the DARS. New schools are being added all the time, but it is not possible to have all schools on DARS at this time. It takes a lot of work to add new schools to the DARS system.

What schools are not DARS? What evaluation do you get from non-DARS schools?

If you are transferring any units from any of these types of schools expect that your DARS will not reflect this work:
-private schools
-University of California (UC)
-out of state colleges and universities
-out of country colleges and universities

Instead, Admissions preparers a different kind of evaluation called an ASE, or Advanced Standing Evaluation. This evaluation is prepared and mailed to you after your first semester has started and after the official transcript has been received. Make sure that SF State has your correct address!

Why doesn't a course/requirement show on DARS after I pass it?

DARS will record passing requirements sometime after the official grading period ends. Give it a bit of time. However, if you pass the OASIS, Information Competence Requirement, the green checkmark will appear on DARS fairly quickly.

What if there is a mistake on my DARS report?

If you feel there's an error on your DARS, first consult with a counselor in the Advising Center. We have daily drop-in hours, and we can look over your DARS report with you. Sometimes errors do have to be corrected and there is a DARS hotline phone number listed at the bottom portion of your DARS.

If I don't understand the DARS, where can I go for help?

We are available to help daily if you have questions about your DARS. Bring a copy of your DARS with you when you come for drop-in hours. You may also write to advsing@sfsu.edu. When you email us, be specific, and give an ID number so we can check your DARS.
