Part One - Transcripts Frequently Asked Questions

Transcripts Frequently Asked Questions

I have units transferred in from a community college. Why doesn't my transcript show what classes I took there?

Your SF State transcript will only show the UNITS you transferred in. Depending on the institution, those units MAY show on your DARS report (see the appropriate section for that information.) If you need to show an instructor and/or advisor proof of a course you have taken elsewhere, you will need an unofficial copy of your transcript from that particular institution.

My Advanced Placement (AP) units show on the transcript. How do I know what requirements are met?

Check your DARS report for that information. If you have recently turned in scores from College Board, it takes a few weeks for DARS to include AP credit.

How come my remedial course does not count towards graduation? I thought it was a requirement?

Yes, if you have taken a remedial course, it was a requirement to fulfill our remediation policy and prepare you for college-level work in math. However, since it was NOT a college-level course, those units will NOT add to your total units earned.

Can my major advisor use my UNofficial transcript when advising me?

Yes. Advisors will not need an official transcript. We can advise unsing the unofficial copy.

Who would need an OFFICIAL copy of my SF State transcript?

If you transfer to another college or university, or when you apply for a post-graduate, master's or doctorate program, you will need official copies sent to that institution. You should ALWAYS keep extra copies of that document! But remember, official copies are only considered official as long as they remain in a sealed envelope from the university.

Do I have to pay to acquire official transcripts?

Yes. Check with our registrar's office for paying for and obtaining one or more copies of your official transcripts. Unofficial transcripts can be printed from your MySFSU page anytime you need them at no cost to you.
