Season for Nonviolence
Overview of the Gandhi-King-Chavez Season for Nonviolence
64 days – applying principles of love & wisdom to daily life
The Season for Nonviolence: January 30 - April 4, is a 64-day educational campaign dedicated to showing that nonviolence is a powerful way to heal and empower our personal lives, our communities and our global society. Inspired by the memorial anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King, this cross-cultural event creates a focused time to learn and practice the wisdom of these two world teachers – in search of the shared values and common goodness that support people of all faiths and political parties moving toward a better future. The HH Learning Center has sponsored this annual focus since 2002.
MISSION: To articulate and practice the principles, virtues and skills underlying nonviolent living and develop the higher aspects of human nature in 3 dimensions of self-practice: Self: focus on developing inner resources / personal growth -- practicing mindful, creative thoughts and emotions; Others: focus on developing communication and relationship skills -- practicing intelligent relationship / positive social interactions; Earth: focus on aligning culture with nature -- fostering collective awakening and a society that works for the common good. - By Kenn Burrows, Jan. 2010, HH Learning Center, SF State
