Housing

If you are interested in housing, apply early! Because San Francisco -- and the entire Bay Area -- is considered one of the most desirable areas in the country, housing is at a premium. Rents are high; vacancies are low. With demand so high, spaces both on and off campus fill quickly. Students wishing to live on campus should check out SF State's housing options and are strongly encouraged to fill out a housing application before being admitted to the University. SF State does not guarantee housing to newly admitted students. Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

On-Campus Housing

The SF State Housing Community provides a home to more than 3,800 San Francisco State University students. As a resident of one of two traditional residence halls (Mary Ward and Mary Park halls), or four apartment complexes (the Towers and the Village at Centennial Square, University Park South and University Park North), you'll live just footsteps away from your classes and the many amenities our campus offers.

To live on campus you must be a full-time student and you must apply separately from the University admission. Housing is limited and not guaranteed so we recommend you apply as early as possible - the Housing application becomes available at the same time as the University application. You can learn everything you need to know about on-campus housing opportunities through the University Housing Web site.

Off-Campus Housing

Many SF State students prefer to save money by living with their families and commuting to San Francisco State. The public transportation options throughout the Bay Area make commuting easy -- even for students traveling sizeable distances. Several San Francisco Muni streetcars and buses stop right at the campus's front door, and the Daly City BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) station is located near campus and linked to SF State by regular shuttle service.

You can learn everything you need to know about off-campus housing opportunities through University Housing's Off-Campus Housing Resources and Links Web site. The site includes a list of available rooms and apartments close to and within commuting distance of SF State.
