Apply
University
Prospective students can easily apply online for admission to San Francisco State, through the California State University www.calstate.edu/apply.
Financial Aid
Students can easily apply online for student financial aid through the FAFSA or the CA Dream Application. The best time to apply is between January 1st and March 2nd during the year BEFORE you plan to attend. For more information, go to our Financial aid website, call (415) 338-7000, or email finaid@sfsu.edu. Financial aid is not available to international students. However, all students can apply for university and private scholarships to cover additional educational costs.
Housing
Check out SF State's on-campus housing options and then apply online. For more information, go to University Housing, call (415) 338-1067, or e-mail housing@sfsu.edu.
Check Application Status
University
Once you've submitted your application to San Francisco State, you should expect to receive your San Francisco State University ID Number and information on how to set up your SF State password by email within 3 weeks. After receivng your ID and setting up your password you will be able to access your Student Center on the SF State Gateway to check your application status. In the meantime, please continue to check the email address that you provided on your application frequently as this is how Undergraduate Admissions will communicate with you if additional documentation is required to complete your application file.
Financial aid
Prospective students can check their financial aid application status, view and accept their financial aid award offer on the web through the SF State Gateway. Follow these instructions to access your financial aid status:
- Go to: gateway.sfsu.edu/
- Enter your SF State ID, then enter your SF State password
- Under Student select "Financial/Jobs"
- Select "view your financial aid status"
- If you don't know or forgot your password, go to: www.sfsu.edu/password/
Housing
At SF State on-campus housing is not required and not guaranteed. Applying for a space on campus is a separate process from the University admission. Housing spaces are accepted first-come, first served based on application dates and license agreement dates. Students are encouraged to apply for University housing as early as possible after they receive their SF State ID # via email from Undergraduate Admissions.
