Whalen joins President's Office Shawn Whalen, former chair of the Academic Senate and a lecturer in Communication Studies since 1997, has joined the Office of the President where he has been appointed to serve as a deputy chief of staff. Whalen will join Chief of Staff Patty Bartscher and Deputy Chief of Staff Jason Porth in supporting the president's initiatives. Whalen will focus his efforts on University reorganization and providing analysis and advice to the president on the academic program. He retains his faculty appointment. "Shawn's skillful leadership has been central to the success of the University's collaborative reorganization process and his expertise in this area will be a great benefit to the campus community as we continue to implement the reorganization," President Robert A. Corrigan said. Prior to serving as chair of the Academic Senate for three terms, Whalen directed the SF State Forensics program. He received his B.A. and M.A. from San Diego State University and did doctoral work at the University of Utah. New tenure-track faculty More than 20 new tenure-track faculty members are joining SF State this fall, representing a variety of teaching and research interests and academic backgrounds.
