In Memoriam

Judith Anne (Judy) Ott
Judith Anne (Judy) Ott, a retired, long-time staff member and administrator at SF State died on April 23. Ott worked as a student assistant at San Francisco State College as she studied to earn her BA in French, which was awarded in 1964. After graduating, she joined the University while working towards her MA in English as a Foreign Language, which she received in 1973..

Ott served in various administrative staff roles in the Registrar's Office, Division of Graduate Studies and the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP). She finished her 37-year career as head of the Curriculum Office, where she managed the University Bulletin and all curricular processes. Upon her retirement in 2001, the Academic Senate stated in a resolution, "she retains in her incomparable memory everything about every major or minor program ever offered at this University, including all prerequisites for now-defunct programs." Because of her encyclopedic memory for all facts and figures of the University, she was to be "enrolled among the legendary figures of San Francisco State University," the resolution continued, adding that she be awarded the title "domina curriculorum emerita." Even after retiring from SF State, Ott continued to do work for Graduate Studies and the ORSP Institutional Review Board for human and animal subjects.

A memorial service is being planned to be held at the Lakeside Presbyterian Church; the date and time will appear in the announcements section of CampusMemo.
