Geosciences Lecturer Jan Null was awarded a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) 2013 Public Safety Award at NHTSA's 31st Annual Lifesavers Conference on April 15 in Denver. The award was presented in recognition of his "exceptional commitment, vision and tireless work to raise public awareness on the issue of heatstroke," which last year claimed the lives of 32 children who were left in cars on sunny days.
Labor Studies
Director of Labor and Employment Studies John Logan was awarded the California Labor Federation's Solidarity Award at the Labor Federation's annual Legislative Conference in Sacramento on April 16 for his writing on Proposition 32.
Philosophy
Professor of Philosophy Anita Silvers presented papers on "Forced Dependence and Custodial Responsibility," about obligations to provide health care for prisoners, and "Pathology and Predicting Risk," about the influence of norms in evidence-based medicine, at the March 27-30 meeting of the American Philosophical Association in San Francisco.
