San Francisco mayor and others to emphasize the importance of the youth vote

WHAT: Hundreds of students, faculty and staff are expected to gather at a Get-Out-The-Vote rally on the San Francisco State University campus. A concert by Mystic Tribe will immediately follow the speakers.

WHO: Speakers include San Francisco mayor Gavin Newsom and other elected officials as well as SFSU President Robert A. Corrigan; College of Behavioral and Social Sciences Dean Joel Kassiola and Associated Students President, David Abella. The rally is sponsored by the SFSU Associated Students and President’s office.

WHEN: Monday, November 1, 10:30 – 11:30 am. Concert follows at noon.

WHERE: On the SFSU campus at the Malcolm X Plaza near the Cesar Chavez Student Center. In the event of rain, the rally will take place in the Rosa Parks Room A-C inside the Student Center.

WHY: SFSU, which has its own voting precinct, is a national leader in promoting voter registration. In a recent study conducted by Harvard University and the Chronicle of Higher Education, SFSU was singled out as one of the top universities in the country for innovative voter registration efforts. This fall alone, more than 1,000 new voters were registered on campus.
