Ronald Purser, Management, presented a paper titled "Towards a Future Infinitive Approach to Organizational Change" at the In Search of Time conference held in May in Palermo, Sicily. Purser's article "Time and Causes of Flow in Organizational Change" was recently published in Research in Organizational Change and Development. Creative Arts Jane Veeder, Design and Industry, presented "Time, Space, and Process: A Pilgrim's Progress Through Feature-Land," at the Animation Production Series held April 17 at University of Washington, Seattle. Hafez Modirzadeh, Music and Dance, contributed the chapter "Makam X: Musical Archetype of the People," in Afro/Asia: Revolutionary Connections In Asian/African American Politics and Culture published by Autonomedia Publications. The Agent by Arthur Asa Berger, Broadcast and Electronic Communication Arts (emeritus), was recently published by Hampton Press. The Portable Postmodernist, and Durkheim is Dead: Sherlock Holmes is Introduced to Sociological Theory also by Asa Berger was recently published by AltaMira. Stephen Wilson, Art, displayed his art and biology installation "Protozoa Games" Aug. 7 at the Blue Room Gallery in San Francisco. Education Health and Human Services Darlene Yee, Gerontology, was appointed to chair the membership committee and co-chair the program committee of the Gerontological Society of America. Humanities Linda Ellis, Museum Studies, contributed "Duplex Ius: Conflict and Competition Between Romano-Byzantine Law and Folk Law in the Balkans," to Confrontation In Late Antiquity published by Orchard Press. Ellis presented "Trial Before Fire: How the Romans Made War Legal," at the California Classical Association meeting, held April 26 at Loyola Marymount University. Marc Dollinger, Jewish Studies, published an essay titled "American Jewish," in the March issue of American Jewish History. Dollinger presented a paper on American Jews and the politics of the 1960s to the Jewish Studies Faculty community advisory board meeting held in February at University of California, Santa Cruz. Masahiko Minami and Shiho Kanazawa, Foreign Languages and Literatures, presented a paper titled "Communication Strategies Used by Second/Foreign Language Learners: Narrative Analysis," at the Georgetown Round Table on Language and Linguistics held at Georgetown University. Masahiko Minami and Hiroshi Imase, Foreign Languages and Literatures, presented a paper titled "Computer-Assisted Language Learning as Applied to Basic Relational Acquisition in Beginning Japanese: One" at the Annual "Digital Stream" Emerging Technologies in Teaching Language and Culture meeting held in March at CSU, Monterey Bay. Minami presented "Bilingual Narrative Development in English and Japanese: A Form/Functional Approach," at the International Symposium on Bilingualism held in May at Arizona State University. Michelle Carter, Creative Writing, won the 2003 PEN West Award for drama for her script "Ted Kaczynski Killed People with Bombs." Nona Caspers, Creative Writing, won the Iowa Award in fiction from the Iowa Review. "At the Desk Where I Didn't Write, In the Room Where I Didn't Paint" a story by Toni Mirosevich, Creative Writing, appeared in a recent issue of Harrington Lesbian Fiction Quarterly. Mirosevich also published a prose poem titled "The Raft," in the fall issue of Bellevue Literary Review and a poem titled "The Procession" in Against Certainty: Poets for Peace San Francisco Bay Area Anthology, a book published earlier this year by Chapiteau Press. Library The Association of College and Research Libraries' Emerging Technologies in Instructional Committee named the J. Paul Leonard Library's OASIS (Online Advancement of Student Information Skills) tutorial as "Site of the Month" for July 2003.
