Cinema
Associate Professor of Cinema Joseph McBride presented a lecture on John Ford on Nov. 20 for the Irish Literary and Historical Society at the United Irish Cultural Center in San Francisco.

Creative Writing
Professor of Creative Writing Nona Caspers' essay "In The Air" appeared in the November 2011 issue of the monthly literary magazine The Sun. Short stories from her manuscript, "This Isn't What I Came to Say," have appeared in literary journals: "A Pair of Sunfish" and "The Fifth Woman" was published in Green Mountains Review, "A Hat Shaped like a Dog that Looked Like a Cat" appeared in Arroyo Literary Review and  "Ants" appeared in the August/September 2011 issue of Glimmer Train.

Gerontology
Professor of Gerontology Brian de Vries coauthored Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Aging: Challenges in research, practice and policy, which was published by Johns Hopkins Press. The journal Aging Today published an article by de Vries on the subject of LGBT aging lessons for all elders.

Professor and Coordinator of Gerontology Darlene Yee-Melichar had one book (Assisted Living Administration and Management: Effective Practices and Model Programs in Elder Care) and two chapters ("Resilience in Aging: Concepts, Research and Outcomes" and "The Aging Networks: A Guide to Programs and Services for Older Americans") published by the Springer Publishing Company.

Professor of Gerontology Anabel Pelham led the effort to obtain the "age-friendly" designation for the cities of Los Altos and Los Altos Hills. A first in California, the designation will allow them to become model cities for intergenerational living by optimizing opportunities for health, participation and security, as well as allowing the cities to apply for government grants and foundation funding for programs and projects.

Marketing
Professor of Marketing William Perttula gave lectures on Internet marketing at the Romanian American University in Bucharest on Oct. 27 and at Valahaia University in Targoviste, Romania on Oct. 31, Nov. 2 and Nov. 3.
