Dr. Barr is the Monterey County Superintendent
of Schools. He holds Bachelors, Masters, and Doctorate
degrees from California universities. As county superintendent,
Dr. Barr oversees all public school education to 140
schools and 75,000 students. In 2001 he served as President
of the California County Superintendents’ Association.
He is on the Board of the National Steinbeck Center
and the Salinas Sports Complex. He is Chair of the
County Treasurer’s Advisory Committee, is on
the Board of Academic Advisors to the Panetta Institute,
chair of the San Jose State University Advisory Committee
and is a member of the University of California’s
Doctoral Advisory Committee. In addition, Dr. Barr
currently teaches in the graduate schools of San Jose
State University in Educational Administration and
at the University of California Berkeley in the Joint
Doctoral Program.
Among Bill’s awards since 1995
are: The Tri-County PTA Honorary Service Award; California
Farm Bureau’s Annual Public Service Award; Hartnell
College’s Distinguished Alumnus Award; and San
Jose State’s Distinguished Service Award. In
1996 Bill was named California’s Outstanding
County Superintendent. In 2002, he was granted the
University of La Verne’s Distinguished Educator
Award. Most recently, in the spring of 2003, he was
honored with the Distinguished Fellow Award from California
State University, Monterey Bay.
Dr. Barr is a life long resident of Monterey
County, and is a graduate of Salinas High School and
Hartnell College. |
