Melanie's Voice

How have increased tuition fees impacted you and your family?:
I completely support myself. This was my first semester at state and it was very difficult for me to get by. I commute from pleasant hill to Daly City twice a week, and I work 5 days a week. I pay rent and I have to get myself to school by bus and BART. With that increasing tuition fees will force me to drop from state because I can barely afford to get to school. I am on financial aid but my awards were not enough to cover my tuition and I was forced to open up a loan which I did not want to do but I had no other choice. It does not really impact my family because I do not get support from my parents. I support myself.

What are you studying at SF State and what do you hope to do once you graduate?:
I am currently majoring on Kinesiology. After this semester I may want to minor is Women's Health. I really would like to pursue a career in physical therapy after I graduate.
