Proposal #88

Proposal Title:     Centralize the Informational Technology from all colleges

Anticipated Savings/Revenue:  $100,000 per year or more

Units affected:  All colleges will be affected by this cut.

Impacted Degrees/Courses: There will be some time lag in getting a response from IT when there are less IT staff.

Brief Description of Proposal:

Right now we have IT departments in all colleges, in addition to a Central IT department called DO-IT in the ADM buidling.  I propose that there needs to be a Central IT department and then 2 IT persons assigned to each college.  This centralized IT is done in other Universities.  This will result in substantial saving to the administration.
I have come up with this idea so that my BASW/MSW program at the School of Social Work is not cut.  Teaching students is what the University is all about.  BASW students graduating from our department enroll in MSW programs in Berkeley, SJSU and other UC and CAL State programs.
I am fearing a backlash for proposing this idea.
