Proposal #7

Proposal Title:     addition of online classes

Anticipated Savings/Revenue:

Units affected:

Impacted Degrees/Courses:

Brief Description of Proposal:

San Franciso State University can save some revenue by adding more online classes, primarily for general education, including English, History, Science, and Math classes.  Some majors also could offer more online classes.  The cost saving would primarily be in reducing the usage/maintenance of facilities.  However, there could be additional saving by attracting faculty/lecturers from the greater bay area who would not need to commute to campus to teach, and perhaps more savings by being able to combine some classes and reduce the duplication of classes.  This would serve the needs of the community by making classes accessible for people who have time scheduling conflicts, would increase the quality of student's experiences by reducing the problem of several courses being offered at the same time, and increase the quality of faculty by tapping into qualified faculty who reside outside of San Francisco.
