Proposal #21

Proposal Title:     Professional degrees in Financial Modeling

Anticipated Savings/Revenue:  ???

Units affected:  School of Business, Mathematics, Economics.

Impacted Degrees/Courses:

Brief Description of Proposal:

According to Wikipedia, Financial Modeling "is the task of building an abstract representation (a model) of a financial decision making situation. This is a mathematical model, such as a computer simulation, designed to represent (a simplified version of) the performance of a financial asset or a portfolio, of a business, a project, or any other form of financial investment. Many financial models are inherently stochastic."

Between the school and departments listed above, we have the expertise to offer such a professional program at both undergraduate and graduate levels. And the San Francisco Bay Area is one the best places to offer such a program (UC Berkeley has some courses on the topic offered through University Extension).

It would be conceived as a professional degree, a joint venture involving business, mathematics and economics, taught in weekend and evening classes and self funded.
