Asian American Studies
Assistant Professor of Asian American Studies Jonathan H. X. Lee was elected Northern California regional representative of the American Academy of Religion, Western Region. He will serve in that capacity until the close of the organization's annual conference in 2017.
Associate Professor of Cinema Martha Gorzycki presented the screening and discussion, "Outstanding Animated Visions: A Survey of Short Animated Films Produced by Women," on March 6 as part of Women's History Month programming at Edinboro University in Scotland, where she once taught animation.
Associate Professor of Communication Studies Rick Isaacson's book for children, The Magic Museum, was published by Lexingford Press. In it, Isaacson integrated vocabulary-building storytelling and descriptive language, juxtaposed with the art of Edgar Degas, to build excitement and turn any visit to an art museum into an adventure of exploration.
Family Acceptance Project
Director of the Family Acceptance Project Caitlin Ryan, in collaboration with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, created the booklet, "Helping Families to Support their Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Children." Based on current research and more than a decade of family intervention work by Ryan and Family Acceptance Project staff, the booklet will help health, mental health and social service practitioners implement best practices in family-focused prevention and care for LGBT youth.
