Smoke-free campus brochures available

November 1, 2004

Image of the front cover of the smoke-free campus brochurePocket-sized brochures that explain the campus smoke-free policy are currently being distributed to students, faculty and staff. The brochures include a map with the nine campus locations where smoking is permitted and will also be available at University offices and lobby areas frequented by visitors or members of the campus community.

The brochures and increased signage in University buildings are part of ongoing efforts to build both awareness of the policy and voluntary respect and cooperation.

The Academic Senate passed a resolution April 27 calling for SFSU to become a smoke-free campus with designated smoking areas. The president endorsed the Senate's action and announced the new policy (University Executive Order #04-33: Smoke-Free Campus), effective Aug. 23.

When the new smoke-free campus policy was announced in July, President Corrigan said, "Our hope is to protect all who live, work, study or visit the campus from a major health concern: secondhand smoke."

For additional copies of the brochure, contact Public Affairs and Publications at pubcom@sfsu.edu or (415) 338-1665.

For more information, including an online map that shows the designated smoking areas, see the smoke-free campus Web site.
