Priority application period open through Nov. 30 | ||||
October 23, 2003 Students intending to enroll at SFSU in fall 2004 are strongly advised to submit their applications for admission no later than Nov. 30. Because of the state's budget crisis and deep cuts to education, all campuses in the CSU system will be forced to limit the number of students admitted next year. Therefore, many CSU campuses, including SFSU, will likely stop accepting applications earlier than in past years. Academically qualified students who apply for undergraduate admission by Nov. 30 increase their chances of being admitted to SFSU. After that, students run the risk of being turned away. Students who intend to transfer to SFSU from another college or university for fall 2004 must have at least 56 units of transferable college credit. "Taking into account the unfortunate situation with the California budget, the University is committed to admitting and enrolling as many students as the budget allows while maintaining the academic program," said Jo Volkert, associate vice president for enrollment planning and management. "While we have not yet established a firm deadline for fall 2004 applications, we strongly advise students to submit their completed applications by Nov. 30, online at CSUMentor.edu, to receive a decision more quickly and increase their chances of admission." Volkert noted that the nursing, cinema, and radio and television programs will only accept undergraduate applications through Nov. 30. SFSU's fall enrollment of 29,709 students is its largest ever. Deadlines for submitting graduate applications remain the same as in past years. The deadline for spring 2004 admission is Nov. 15, and for fall 2004 admission, May 15, 2004. Certain graduate programs have earlier deadlines and require an additional application. For details, visit the Division of Graduate Studies Web site or call at (415) 338-2234. For more details on SFSU admissions, majors and degree programs, costs, financial aid, on-campus housing and student life, visit the Prospective Student Web site, call (415) 338-2355 or send an e-mail to: outreach@sfsu.edu. Prospective students interested in on-campus housing are encouraged to submit a housing application before being admitted to SFSU, as space is limited and applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. For details, call (415) 338-1067 or visit the Housing and Residential Services Web site. -- Matt Itelson |
