• The application period for Fall 2009 is now open. For Fall 2009 admission, applications are accepted from October 1, 2008 - March 1, 2009. Admission decisions are made in March - May for Fall, and in October - November for Spring. The application form must be submitted online. Established in 1964, SFSU's M.A. program in English with a concentration in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) is one of the oldest and largest TESOL programs in the United States. A faculty composed of nationally and internationally recognized authorities in TESOL, a curriculum which effectively integrates theory, pedagogy and practice, varied opportunities to gain practical experience, and the cultural heterogeneity of both the city of San Francisco and the University itself combine to make our M.A. TESOL program unique.
Graduates of our program teach in English language institutes, community colleges, 4-year colleges/universities, and community and workplace settings, in the U.S. and abroad. They also become ESL/EFL materials specialists, administrators, and researchers. Many of our alumni have gone on to Ph.D. programs in a variety of fields.
