The First Chinese Star Contest Successfully Held in San Jose-Silicon Valley

       The first Chinese Star Contest was successfully held in the office building of Office of Education, Santa Clara County. Jointly held by Confucius Institute at San Francisco State University (CISFSU) and Santa Clara County Office of Education (SCCOE), the contest is divided into five events, including Drawing/painting, Chinese Poem Recital, Calligraphy (Pen and Brush) and Mandarin Oral Presentation, attracted 271 students from local schools registering for 441 person-times.
       Local school districts, communities and families actively involved in this contest. Staff from SCCOE, CISFSU and local teachers collaborated together to work on different procedures and arrangements. Students all dressed up, some even put on traditional Chinese costumes, added festival atmosphere to this exciting event.
       Students all displayed impressive talents in their Chinese language and their understanding of Chinese culture. Poems of ancient China and modern styles could be heard in well-articulated Chinese in every contest room. At Drawing contest and Calligraphy contest, young artist concentrated in creating their masterpieces. Oral Presentation contestants also surprised their audiences by delivering wonderful speeches they prepared in just one hour.
       Parents could not feel more proud of their kids and greatly appreciated the efforts by the organizing committee. Everyone presented enjoyed a wonderful day of Chinese learning and expected another great contest next year.
