I Application Conditions
Chinese language teachers (trainees) with at least one year of Chinese teaching experience at a credited public/private school; less than 60 years old, strong physical health; have not participated in the project within the past five years; love Chinese teaching and willing to engage in this course for the long term.

II Training Cycle
2009 Summer Chinese Teacher Training Program at Beijing Normal University is a three-week program (Departing SF on July 4, arriving in Beijing on July 5, Training Class from July 6 to July 24) followed by an optional 12-day cultural tour (traveling from July 24 to August 4, leaving Shanghai for SF on August 4) organized by Confucius Institute at San Francisco State University.

III Training Content
In order to make the training program more focused, Beijing Normal University will design training plans according to the demands of trainees and the Chinese language teaching situation in the US.

IV Organizer/Sponsor
Organizer: Confucius Institute at San Francisco State University Sponsor: The Office of Chinese Language Council International (Hanban).

V Training Cost
The Office of Chinese Language Council International (Hanban) will provide tuition, accommodations and other financial aid. Trainees are responsible for their international airfare, medical insurance, and other personal expenses. A double room for two trainees will be provided for free from the reporting day to the day the training concludes. If trainee needs a higher standard accommodation, he or she should pay the cost by himself or herself.

VI Training Certificate
Upon completion of the training, an examination will be held. Those who pass the exam will be awarded a certificate by Hanban. More than three absences will deprive you of the opportunity to obtain the certificate.

VII Application
Applicants must submit the following items to Confucius Institute at San Francisco State University before March 14, 2009:

(1) Application Form;
(2) Three recent passport photos;
(3) An in-service certificate issued by the school;
(4) A recommendation letter written by the school principal;
(5) A health statement from your doctor; and
(6) A non-refundable application fee of $200 (Please make a check payable to: Confucius Institute at SF State .)

VIII Enrollment and Notification
Confucius Institute at SF State will collect the required application materials, which will be forwarded to t he Education Division of the Chinese Consulate in San Francisco for preliminary views and to Hanban for final evaluation. Hanban will notify the Education Division of the enrollment results. Confucius Institute at SF State will get final admission information from Education Division and send an acceptance notification to the participants.

IX Optional 12-day Cultural Tour

Time: July 24 (Friday) – August 4 (Tuesday)
Route: Beijing-Kunming-Dali-Lijiang-Shangri-la-Suzhou-Shanghai
Cost: $1,800/person includes in-China transportation, accommodations, and visitations. International airfare, medical insurance, visa fees, and other personal expenses are not included. There is no refund after April 20, 2009.
Application Fee: $60 (non-refundable)
Application deadline: March 14, 2009

Please make sure your health insurance will cover your international travels during your stay in China.

X Visa Application
After Hanban has approved your application, CISFSU will help apply for your visa. You should turn in the following to CISFSU before May 1, 2009:
(1) A completed Chinese Visa Application Form;
(2) Passport; and
(3) A visa application and handling fee of $150 payable to "Confucius Institute at SF State". Your passport with visa will be returned to you by certified mail, or you may come to pick up your passport at CISFSU.

XI International Airplane tickets
We'd like to recommend the following airlines and the schedule. If you would like CISFSU to help book group tickets, you'd better complete application before the deadline. We will try to book group tickets although it is not guaranteed. If we reserve tickets now, we may get special price around $1,000-1,300.
