SF State hosts climate change teach-in Jan. 30-31
Public invited to meet environmental and social change activists and learn more about the intersection of climate change and social justice
What
Public invited to a two-day teach-in led by San Francisco State University faculty and leading experts on global warming. Part of a national teach-in involving more than 1,000 colleges and other educational institutions across the country, "Focus the Nation" was organized to provide the public with the latest information on climate science and involve everyone in addressing climate change as the social justice issue of our time. "The 2% solution," a teleconference featuring activists and experts from around the world, will provide participants the opportunity to vote for solutions to climate change. SF State is one of the uplink sites for a nationwide Webcast on Wednesday evening.
Who
Keynote speakers include: Michael Glantz, senior researcher at the National Center for Atmospheric Research and authority on the interplay between climate and society; Van Jones, president of the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights; and Dennis Martinez, American Indian ecologist and founder of the Indigenous Peoples' Restoration Network. SF State faculty and international, state and local policymakers will speak and participate in panels.
