After
working for four and a half years in Human Resources, Rebecca
Sanchez moved to the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs
to work as a preaward coordinator.
Sanchez is the first contact for faculty members submitting grant proposals.
She matches proposals with the appropriate federal and University guidelines
and routes them to the specialists/analysts who work with the faculty
members on applying for grants.
It's a role she is comfortable in -- one of her duties in Human Resources
(HR) was to work the front desk.
"I like helping people," she said. "I'm a great person
to calm people down. I have a soft voice and I use it to my advantage."
Lindsay McGlenon worked with Rebecca at the HR front desk. "Rebecca
trained me in HR when I started in November," McGlenon said. "She
worked extremely hard at balancing the training of her new position and
finishing training me before she moved on. ... she showed grace, commitment
and patience throughout this whole process."
Sanchez has been at SFSU since 2000. Previously she worked in the cashier's
office at City College of San Francisco. She said that it's particularly
gratifying when students she helped at City College recognize her here
on campus. She earned a bachelor of arts in psychology from SFSU and hopes
to also work on a master of arts degree in counseling and eventually become
a college counselor.
Sanchez lives in San Francisco with her husband Daniel and step-children
Daniel Jr. and Danelly.
Please join
us in congratulating Rebecca and
thank him for making such a difference.
As the
STAR of the Month, Sanchez will enjoy four free lunches on campus, a free
parking pass or equivalent in one month's public transportation costs,
and more.
