In
early 2001 Tania Beaudet, office coordinator for the
Geography Department and Human Environmental Studies Program, was on the
dot-com fast track as a buyer for an online furniture startup. Then the
dot-com crash happened, and Beaudet found herself looking for a new direction.
She enrolled in SFSU, applied to the temp pool, and landed a job as office
coordinator in the Geography Department in Jan. 2002. The job quickly
became a permanent position.
It's a decision she doesn't regret -- even though the startup she was
with survived and is still in business.
"I don't miss it," she said. "I love being in the academic
world."
As office coordinator Beaudet assists faculty and students, manages the
budget and supplies, and helps chair Nancy Wilkinson with other administrative
duties.
She enjoys the work -- even though her workload increased last fall when
the Human Environmental Studies Program became part of her responsibilities.
"I love the intellectual stimulation," she said. "We have
a lot of young faculty so it has really invigorated our department. And
the older faculty are great too -- it's a nice balance."
"Tania is a supportive, efficient person who takes care of business
for all of us while maintaining a warm, welcoming environment, said Ellen
Hines, assistant professor of geography and human environmental studies.
"She keeps us all going."
Beaudet is pursuing an undergraduate degree in art on campus. But she
will be taking a break from both her job and studies next month -- a baby
girl is due this fall.
Beaudet lives in West Portal with her husband Michael. She paints and
likes to cook, garden and sew.
Please join
us in congratulating Tania and
thank him for making such a difference.
As the
STAR of the Month, Beaudet will enjoy four free lunches on campus, a free
parking pass or equivalent in one month's public transportation costs,
and more.
