For Baudelio Enriquez, lead groundsworker and September STAR of the Month, his job at the University is a combination of the freedom to work individually while at the same time be part of a team.

"What I enjoy most is working hard on a project. The work here keeps me busy all the time, which is something that I enjoy. I find working hard very peaceful," Enriquez said. "But it's not just me. I'm part of a crew of four that works together as a unit, doling out the work and getting it all done."

Enriquez, who lives with his wife and two children in San Lorenzo, has been working for the University for almost five years. As part of his daily activities, he and his crew take care of the landscaping surrounding campus buildings.

"He takes initiatives to solve problems, and solves them in the right way for the long term. He gives his crew training, encouragement and support," said Phil Evans, director of campus grounds. "He and his crew take personal responsibility for the beauty and quality of the grounds. They take care of the grass as if it were their own."

Because of his attention to detail and willingness to take on new projects and experiences over the last four years, he has risen steadily in the campus grounds department.

"He was an experienced gardener in private industry before he came here. However, he saw the opportunity here to expand his range of successful experiences and agreed to start again at the entry level," said Evans. "Through his skill and initiative, he was able to successfully apply for promotional openings as they occurred."

During the weekends, Enriquez enjoys attending his children's soccer games in San Lorenzo.

Please join us in congratulating Baudelio and thank him for making such a difference.

As the STAR of the Month, Enriquez will enjoy four free lunches on campus, a free parking pass or equivalent in one month's public transportation costs, and more. He will also be eligible for the STAR of the Year award.
