Tadahiro Nomura, a two-time Olympic gold medal winner in judo, is taking a welcome break from the pressures of public life in his native Japan by studying English at SFSU. "I really like it here in San Francisco and at San Francisco State," he says. "This is a very beautiful city and I like the relaxed atmosphere on the campus." Nomura began practicing judo at age five and went on to become the Japanese national champion in his weight class--132 pounds. His career culminated in back-to-back gold medal wins in Atlanta and Sydney. Once he finishes his studies at SFSU, he plans on returning to Japan to prepare for the 2004 Athens Games.

For more on Nomura, see the Press Release.
