Program Purpose
The program is designed to provide a rigorous, in-depth research experience to prepare participants for top-quality Ph.D. and M.D./Ph.D. programs in the neurosciences.
Program Description
The UCLA Brain Research Institute sponsors a summer undergraduate research experience (BRI-SURE) program for Minority Access to Research Careers (MARC) Scholars. BRI-SURE is an 8- or 10-week summer research-training program for exceptional students interested in pursuing careers in Neuroscience research. Participants are required to conduct independent research, participate fully in a research lab group, and attend workshops and journal clubs. The program culminates with a poster presentation given by participants.
Benefits
Students will be awarded a$2,400 stipend for 8 weeks, or a $3,000 stipend for 10 weeks. Room and board is not provided.
Selection Criteria
Participants are selected based on academic achievement, leadership, and commitment to diversity. Students should be committed to pursuing research careers. Prior research experience is also valuable.
Eligibility
Must be a sophomore or junior level MARC scholar interested in the neurosciences.
Deadline
Usually mid-March.
