  • Announcements
    • * Introductions: Stephanie Enyart was reintroduced to the committee after a short leave from the University.
  • Approval of Agenda: Approved
  • Approval of October notes: approved
  • Review of AUCSFSD charge and membership (Academic Senate Policy F95-24)
    http://www.sfsu.edu/~senate/documents/policies/F95-024.html
    Item postponed until working group can meet.
  • Information Access Subcommittee report: Review of computer access standards
    Re inventory of campus computing facilities and work toward standards. Out of information access subcommittee.
    • Three levels of access: baseline, accessible standards, and enhanced.
    • Baseline: minimal standard for readily accessible use - no adaptive technology (paths of travel, etc.);
    • Accessible standard would be applied to every facility - one in every 20. Includes screen reader, voice synthesizer, scan & read software, screen enlarger, audio jack, furniture flexibility;
    • Enhanced - all the bells and whistles for facilities with more than 100 - Braille embosser (items less frequently used, more expensive) add a refreshable Braille display (represents what's on the screen in Braille). DPRC will continue to provide individual access as needed. Point is to make facilities accessible without a special request having to be made. Standards developed according to those at other campuses and state/federal guidelines. Standards were endorsed unanimously.
  • Physical Access Subcommittee report: Review of building access features and BART shuttle stop signage projects.
    • Full-sized (6' X 1') shuttle stop signs. No tactile version yet, but there will be a model before we buy them. Need to re-examine the physical design - flag-style - with a view canes and dogs for low/no vision individuals. Need higher contrast with buildings outlined. Website needs to be on there as well.
    • It was suggested to also install a shuttle sign at the BART station
    • These are the first shuttle stop signs to appear on campus.
    • Campus maps: vinyl maps will be updated and replaced annually.
    • Planning has begun for a tactile campus map. Will use GIS technology so it can be easily updated. It will ultimately be a web-based project where specific areas of the campus can be individually generated. Has ground-breaking potential - may be the first campus in the US.
    • No legal standards for this kind of signage.
    • Sample interior access signs. Called for in the settlement agreement. Will include only building features that are fixed. Considerable discussion on Braille/tactile content.
  • CSU updates: Tabled to a future meeting.
  • Other: Announcement & request re Society for Disability Studies will be here in June 8 - 12.
    • Will be looking for lots of student volunteers for 250 to 300 people on campus for five days.
    • Will be staying in The Towers, conference at 7 Hills. Call for proposals out now.
    • Focus first meeting of the spring on faculty related issues.
    • Set meeting schedule for spring. Remains the same as fall - 2nd Thursday 12 - 1:30 pm.
