Growing sustainability

October 13, 2008 -- On Sept. 21, members of ECO Students Housing at San Francisco State University held a planting party to spruce up the public garden behind Mary Park Hall. The students learned about sustainable gardening practices from experts in permaculture, which stresses socially responsible growing. More than 20 students helped plant a variety of vegetables and herbs in four growing beds using organic soil and drip irrigation techniques. The group plans to double the size of the garden in late October as part of the California Student Sustainability Coalition Convergence when students from across California will gather at SF State for sustainability workshops and activities. ECO Students Housing works closely with University Housing to promote sustainability on campus.
