Welcome

Fall Registration: Deadline September 30, 2008

The registration period for student organizations is approaching for the 2008-09 academic year. This year's registration form is now available online for Greek organizations and for general student organizations. Please remember that all student organizations must complete the registration form, including all necessary signatures, and return to Student Programs and Leadership Development, SSB 105, by the deadline of September 30, 2008. To complete the registration process, the president and financial officer must attend an OSPLD Student Leader Orientation and the organization must send at least one representative (preferably the president and/or financial officer) to the September 6th Student Leadership Symposium (see below). OSPLD is looking forward to working with you all in the upcoming year.

Student Leadership Symposium Mandatory Event

OSPLD, in collaboration with University Housing, will host SF State's inaugural Student Leadership Symposium on Saturday, September, 6, 2008, from 9:00 AM - 3:30 PM in the Student Center. The primary goals of the program are to bring student leaders together to network, learn about University resources and continue strengthening their leadership skills while on campus and beyond. This is a mandatory event for all student organizations and included as part of the student organization registration process. Each organization is expected to have at least one representative attend the event, preferably the president and/or financial officer. We encourage student organizations to have multiple officers attend. Additional information, including the online registration form, is available at the Leadership Symposium web site.

Time, Place and Manner Task Force Update

Earlier this spring, at the direction of Vice President J.E. (Penny) Saffold, a moratorium was placed on all outdoor events until a review of relevant policies could be conducted by a task force. The current policy (Executive Order 89-13) dates back to 1989 and needs to be updated. Associate Vice President Eugene R. Chelberg appointed and charged the task force. Eight students, most of whom represent various student organizations, ASI and the CCSC Governing Board, along with eight representatives from the faculty, staff, and administration agreed to serve on the task force. Their charge is to review the current policy and draft recommendations to be presented to the President's Cabinet by August 15, 2008. OSPLD will keep you informed as to the progress of the task force as we approach the August 15 date.

Newsletter and Officer Transition

OSPLD will be working with student organizations during the registration process to best assist with officer transition. Part of this will be the transition of sending the newsletter to the appropriate new officers. The transfer of addresses will be conducted on September 30, 2008 after the registration deadline. We ask for your assistance in the meantime to please forward the newsletter to your members so all student organizations stay informed about important events, updates and trainings. We thank you for your assistance.
