Introduction

Welcome to an introduction to KidPix Studio Deluxe, a paint and slideshow program that is truly simple to use! In the next 3 hours, students from a graduate level Instructional Technologies (ITEC) class will be guiding you through the main functions of the KidPix program and discussing with you the main issues to consider while using the software.

Objectives

By the end of the workshop, the participants will be able to:

    • navigate through the 6 parts of the KidPix Studio Deluxe program.
    • create new pictures.
    • use the toolbars to draw, stamp, type, erase and move objects.
    • record and insert audio into picture(s).
    • insert digitized graphic(s) into picture(s).
    • create a slideshow which includes audio and slide transitions.
    • save file into a central location with the appropriate MAC/PC file extension.
    • investigate or develop uses of KidPix for the K-6 environment.

Activity/Activities

1) KidPix in the Classroom
[Presentation] Explore the uses of KidPix in the classroom. A facilitator will demonstrate the uses of this program in the K-6 environment. For links to these examples, visit KidPix in the Classroom Resources section.

2) KidPix Studio Deluxe
[Presentation] Discover the 6 components of KidPix Studio Deluxe: KidPix (paint), SlideShow, Moopies, Stampinator, Digital Puppets, Wacky TV.

3) Toolbars
[Presentation] Learn the function (draw, type, erase, move objects and more) of the various icons found in the program. Visit the sites in the Tutorials section for a detailed view of the icons and their purposes.

4) Slides, Audio and Graphics
[Presentation] Create new slides, insert digitized graphics and record/insert audio.

5) Save File
[Presentation] Learn to save your file to a central location and include the appropriate file extension.

6) Practice: Create your own pictures
[Hands-on experience] Here's your chance to test out this program. Create 3 KidPix slides and make sure you save them to a central location. We will use these later on in the slideshow portion of the workshop. There are no other guidelines for this exercise so be creative with your drawings!

7) Slideshow
[Presentation] Create a slideshow from existing slides. Learn to import KidPix pictures as slides, record/insert audio, insert transitions, change time period of each slide, and play slideshow.

8) Practice: Create your own slideshow
[Hands-on experience] Use the pictures you've already created to build a slideshow. Change the transitions and add sounds. Then, play the slideshow to view your final product!
