Pronounced dead at Seton Medical Center

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, May 15, 2007 -- A San Francisco State University student was transported by ambulance to Seton Medical Center at 10:05 a.m. today, after collapsing on campus. He was pronounced dead at that facility at 10:29 a.m. The name of the student is being withheld, pending notification of next of kin. The San Mateo County Coroner's Office is investigating.

The student had been observed walking on campus between the Library and the Franciscan building, when he was observed to stagger and fall. Witnesses flagged down SFPD officers who were riding through the area as part of a police bicycle training. SFPD rendered aid and notified both University Police and SFPD by radio. San Francisco Fire Department paramedics responded, rendered aid and stabilized the student for transport by ambulance.
