Discover secrets of the deep and enjoy barbecue, live music WHAT: Annual Discovery Day at San Francisco State University’s marine sciences center. Get a behind the scenes look at marine and estuarine science in action. Activities and exhibits include touch tanks, lab displays and even PLANKTON RACES! Admission is free. Come for the barbecue lunch ($5) and stay for the music of the SFSU jazz band. Additional exhibitors include The Marine Mammal Center, Cetacean Society, Richardson Bay Audubon, Bay Model, Bay Area Discovery Museum, Gulf of the Farallones National Marine Sanctuary, and California Academy of Sciences. The Center is the only academic research facility situated on San Francisco Bay, the largest estuary on the west coast of the United States. As an affiliate of San Francisco State University, the Center provides its students with graduate and undergraduate level courses as well as practical experience gained through research conducted in the laboratories of RTC scientists. Directions: From Highway 101, take the Tiburon Blvd. exit. Continue for several miles to Trestle Glen. Turn left at Trestle Glen and right at Paradise Drive. Go three miles. The Bay Conference Center is approximately 1/2 mile past Paradise Beach Park. Turn left at the beautiful new gates and you're there. Please note: Parking Spaces -- 40 in the parking lot. The overflow lot is located on the site and is accessed through the next gate at 3150 Paradise Drive. Signs will direct you to the BCC which is approximately a 1/4 mile walk through the woods on a paved path.
