Talented administrator with two decades of campus experience a perfect fit for the newly-created position which combines two vice presidential areas

SAN FRANCISCO, June 25, 2002 -- Leroy Morishita, vice president of physical planning and development, has been named vice president of administration and finance. Morishita will assume his new position at the beginning of the fall semester after the retirement of Don Scoble, vice president of business and finance.

Morishita will continue to be responsible for physical planning and development but will also take over the management of the areas that Scoble currently oversees.

"Dr. Morishita has committed two decades of his professional life to San Francisco State," said President Robert A. Corrigan, "In doing so, he has acquired an exceptional range of experience. He has a keen understanding of fiscal affairs and budget planning, student recruitment and retention, and what it takes to provide the facilities and infrastructure needed to run a large public university."

"His singular combination of skills and experience make it possible for us to unite two vice presidential areas under his leadership, recreating a position we have not had for many years. I have the greatest confidence in Dr. Morishita. His role in shaping the future of San Francisco State is a crucial one, and I am very pleased that he agreed to take it on."

As Vice President for Administration and Finance, Morishita will take the lead on planning and managing SFSU's budget. He will also oversee many of the non-academic University departments including Information Technology, Human Resources, Fiscal Affairs, Housing and Residential Services, Enrollment Planning and Management, Capital Planning and Facilities and Service Enterprises.

"This new position poses an exciting but challenging opportunity given the State's current budgetary situation and many competing University demands," said Morishita. "I have worked with many of the people in the areas that will be under my administration, and I am looking forward to continuing and renewing my working relationships with them to ensure that the University infrastructure is poised to provide the resources and support to the faculty and academic departments necessary for them to deliver an excellent education to our students."

After earning a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of California, Berkeley, Morishita came to San Francisco State and completed a master's degree in counseling. He also holds a doctorate of education in administration, planning and social policy from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
