Award winning Mexican-American shares writing experiences with students
SAN FRANCISCO, March 25, 2002 --- The Raza Studies department at San Francisco State University will welcome Sandra Cisneros, award winning author and activist, for a book reading, on Monday, April 15 in Jack Adams Hall in the Cesar Chavez Student Center. During her appearance, Cisneros will read from her newest novel, "Caramelo," followed by a book signing from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Cisneros, recipient of two National Endowment for the Arts Fellowships, writes lyrical prose about the challenges facing Latinos in a distinctly vivid and unique voice. "Cisneros is one of our best loved and most widely read authors," said Velia Garcia, chair of the Raza Studies department at SFSU. "Our faculty, staff and students are honored and delighted to have her on campus." Her best known works include "The House on Mango Street," "Woman Hollering Creek," and "My Wicked Wicked Ways."
Student writer Fred H. Danfoura contributed to this press release.
