Leroy Morishita named SFSU Vice President of Physical Planning and Development

SAN FRANCISCO---October 5, 2001 ---Leroy M. Morishita, a long time San Francisco State University administrator, has been appointed vice president for physical planning and development. In his new position, Morishita will oversee capital planning, student housing, and facility and grounds maintenance.

"Dr. Morishita brings an excellent record to his new position," said San Francisco State President Robert A. Corrigan. "He has shown outstanding leadership in crucial areas across the University. His strong academic record, including graduate work in our counseling department, and a doctoral degree from one of the nation's premier universities, speaks for itself. What's more, his almost two decades of service to San Francisco State means he has an incredible wealth of knowledge and a history of success to draw upon. I value his counsel and expertise and look forward to working more closely with him."

Morishita had been serving the University as associate vice president of Budget Planning and Resource Management. During his 17 years at San Francisco State, he has held senior administrative positions in the areas of business, finance, risk management, enrollment management, housing and institutional research. With this new position, he becomes the fifth vice president reporting to President Corrigan.

His wide range of experience and comprehensive knowledge of the university and the CSU was a major factor in the decision by the search committee to unanimously recommend Morishita for the position.

"I am very pleased to be appointed to the position of Vice President of Physical Planning & Development," said Morishita. "I am looking forward to taking on the additional responsibilities this position carries. I'm also excited about the opportunity to work more closely with President Corrigan and the entire San Francisco State campus community in ensuring that our campus continues its reputation of excellence."

After earning a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of California, Berkeley, Morishita came to San Francisco State and completed a master's degree in counseling. He also holds a doctorate of education in administration, planning and social policy from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
