What: Hundreds of San Francisco preschoolers ages 3-5, their parents, teachers and college students from San Francisco State University's Jumpstart Program will take over the main lawn on the S.F. State campus for a day of activities to bolster the literacy and social skills of children preparing to enter school.
When and Where: Friday, May 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the main lawn at San Francisco State University, 1600 Holloway Ave., San Francisco.
The KidsFest Main Stage will feature two children's authors from Northern California reading, discussing and signing their work:
11:15 a.m. -- Marsha Arnold, author of "Quick, Quack, Quick"
11:45 a.m. -- Lissa Rovetch, author of "Oock the Book"
Who: Close to 650 preschoolers from 16 San Francisco child development centers will learn how reading and fun go together with learning stations staffed by 150 university and community volunteers and the 50 Jumpstart Corps Members. Each family and school will receive an activity guide with instructions on how to recreate the learning activities, as well as a multilingual supplementary guide on conservation themed activities in honor of Cesar Chavez.
Free Books: Every child who comes to KidsFest receives a free book. This year's books have been provided through the generosity of Chronicle Book Press, Mariuccia Iaconi Books, The Marian Wright Edelman Institute and The City College of San Francisco AmeriCorps Program.
KidsFest 2001 sponsors: Chronicle Books, Rainbow Grocery Foundation, Dreyer's Ice Cream Foundation, Extreme Pizza, Safeway, San Francisco MUNI and Black Mountain Spring Water.
