Biology
Associate Professor of Biology Vance Vredenburg published a paper titled "Prevalence of Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis in Xenopus Collected in Africa (1871-2000) and in California (2001-2010)" in the journal PLOS ONE. The paper was published on May 15, 2013.

Cinema
Professor of Cinema Joseph McBride was the keynote speaker at the second annual John Ford Ireland Film Symposium in Dublin, Ireland on June 8. The symposium was sponsored by the Irish Film and Television Academy. McBride's speech was entitled "John Ford, His Old Friend Abraham Lincoln, and the Better Angels of Our Nature." McBride touched on Young Mr. Lincoln and other Ford films about the sixteenth president, as well as Steven Spielberg's recent film Lincoln. McBride is the author of Searching for John Ford and Steven Spielberg: A Biography.

Gerontology and Nursing
Doody's Core Titles in the Health Sciences 2013 has named as a core title the book, Assisted Living Administration and Management: Effective Practices and Model Programs in Elder Care, by Professor of Gerontology Darlene Yee-Melichar, Associate Professor of Nursing Andrea Renwanz-Boyle and Gerontology Lecturer Cristina Flores. The Doody's website defines a core title as "a book or software title that represents essential knowledge needed by professionals or students in a given discipline and is highly recommended for the collection of a library that serves health sciences specialists."

Philosophy
Professor and Chair of Philosophy Anita Silvers was one of two individuals awarded the inaugural Dr. Martin R. Lebowitz and Eve Lewellis Lebowitz Prize for Philosophical Achievement and Contribution by The Phi Beta Kappa Society in conjunction with the American Philosophical Association, the Society announced May 28. As part of the award, Silvers will deliver a lecture at the American Philosophical Association meeting in December.

Social Work
Assistant Professor of Social Work Rashmi Gupta co-authored the paper, "The Greening of Social Work," which was posted on the Council on Social Work Education website, and information about the paper was released to all members of CSWE. The concept paper addresses sustainability in social work.
