Facilities/Sustainability
Sustainability Programs Manager Caitlin Steele was presented with the CSU Sustainability Champion Award at the California Higher Education Sustainability Conference in Santa Barbara on June 27. The award recognizes an individual who has been a role model to peers around the state, has promoted sustainability throughout their campus, achieved results and who truly embodies the term "leader."

Also, Steele was selected by the Chancellor's Office to serve on the Energy Contract Oversight Board. Composed of representatives from campus facilities, the Chancellor's Office and outside consultants, the board guides the CSU in the procurement of short-, medium- and long-term energy resource requirements for electricity and natural gas.

Health Education
Professor of Health Education Erik Peper authored the article, "Epilepsy: New (old) Treatment without Drugs," which appeared in the Summer 2013 issue of NeuroConnections.

Labor Studies
Labor Studies Lecturer William Sokol was appointed by Governor Brown to the California Secure Choice Retirement Savings Investment Board, which oversees the newly created voluntary retirement program for private-sector employees.

Liberal Studies
Associate Professor of Liberal Studies Tanya Augsburg was an invited speaker at the E.U.-U.S. Atlantis Excellence in Mobility Project Conference: Cross-Cultural Training for E.U. and U.S. Students (CROCUS) held at Aston University in Birmingham, United Kingdom May 20-21. She gave the talk, "Envisioning Intercultural Integrative Learning with e-Portfolios."

Assistant Professor of Liberal Studies José Acacio de Barros presented an invited paper on negative probabilities and counterfactual reasoning at the Quantum Foundations & Quantum Information Workshop in Växjö, Sweden, on June 13.

Also, Acacio de Barros presented an invited paper titled "Beyond a quantum formalism: consequences of a neural-oscillator model to quantum cognition" at the 4th International Conference in Computational Neuroscience in Sigtuna, Sweden, on June 24.
