Broadcast and Electronic Communication Arts
Associate Professor of Broadcast and Electronic Communication Arts Miriam A. Smith was invited by the United States Agency for International Development to serve on an international panel concerning law and electronic media. The panel was part of the Center for Defending Freedom of Journalists conference held in Amman, Jordan June 12-16.

Biology
Assistant Professor of Biology Andy Zink published the paper "Maternal nest defense reduces egg cannibalism by conspecific females in the maritime earwig Anisolabis maritime" in the journal Behavioral Ecological Sociobiology.

Creative Arts
Creative Arts Technical Services staffer Diana Rumjahn's new film "Determined Spirits," an inventive experimental mysterious thriller, was screened at the Jun 8-12 Porto 7 International Short Film Festival in Porto, Portugal.  

Social Work
Assistant Professor of Social Work Rashmi Gupta had an article published in the March issue of Death Studies. She presented her findings at the American Society of Aging in April at the Annual Conference in San Francisco.

Health Education
The California Wellness Foundation (TCWF) named Associate Professor of Health Education José Ramón Fernández-Peña a 2011 Champion of Health Professions Diversity at the annual TCWF Champions of Health Professions Diversity Awards ceremony on June 1 for his work as founder of the Welcome Back Initiative.

Professor of Holistic Healing Studies Eric Peper and Assistant Professor of Health Education Richard Harvey were co-authors of the article, "Biofeedback, een wetenschappelijkbewezen aanpak in de klinische praktijk" (Biofeedback, a scientifically proven approach in clinical practice) in the Dutch journal Vakblad voor de Natuurgeneeskundig, 2011, vol 4.

Peper also co-authored the paper, "Athletes Are Different: Factors that Differentiate Biofeedback/Neurofeedback for Sport Versus Clinical Practice," published in the journal Biofeedback.

Museum Studies
Professor and Director of Museum Studies Linda Ellis received a commendation for outstanding service by the City of San Francisco and San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) for rescuing SFPD archives and developing a historical exhibition to accompany the California Homicide Investigators Association conference in March 2011.

Psychology
Professor of Psychology David Matsumoto published "Cooperation and competition in intercultural interactions" in the International Journal of Intercultural Relations.

Sexuality Studies
Assistant Professor of Sexuality Studies David Frost published "Similarities and Differences in the Pursuit of Intimacy among Sexual Minority and Heterosexual Individuals: A Personal Projects Analysis" in the June issue of the Journal of Social Issues.

Theatre Arts
Professor of Theatre Arts John Wilson designed the set for the Marin Theatre Company production of "Tiny Alice," which played June 2-26.

Associate Professor of Theatre Arts Jo Tomalin directed her play "Jessica: A Drama" at the Fringe of Marin festival at Dominican University in San Rafael April 15 to May 8.
