Africana Studies
Professor and Chair of Africana Studies Dorothy Tsuruta was honored with the Educator of the Year award by the San Francisco Chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc., March 1 at the Fairmont Hotel. She also received Certificates of Recognition from San Francisco Mayor Edwin M. Lee and the President of the Board of Supervisors David Chiu. Tsuruta was also honored as California Educator of the Year (presented by Senator Mark Leno) and received the California Senate Certificate of Recognition (presented by Senator Leland Y. Yee).
Psychology
Associate Professor of Psychology Ryan Howell presented the lecture, "Happiness for Sale: How Money Can Buy Happiness (and Why it Typically Does Not)," at California State University, Bakersfield's annual Quality of Life Activity Series on March 6.
Women and Gender Studies
Assistant Professor of Women and Gender Studies Evren Savci delivered the lecture, "Neredesin Aşkım?: Sexual Politics and the Queering of Public Space in Times of Erdoğan," on March 6 at the Center for Middle Eastern Studies at the University of California, Berkeley. The lecture focused on how gender and sexuality politics of the current Turkish government have been central to its overall autocratic and authoritarian governance and to its active encouragement of conservatism in the country.
