Discount tickets for International Arts Festival
The Dilena Takeyama Center for the Study of Japan and Japanese Culture, through an agreement with the U.S./Japan Cultural Trade Network, is offering a $4 discount on tickets for two groups appearing as part of the San Francisco International Arts Festival in May:
• Mansaku-no Kai will present Suminuri (Black Crocodile Tears), Tsuki-mi Zato (The Moon-Viewing Blind Man) and Kubihiki (Neck Pulling) on Thursday, May 10 and Friday, May 11 at 7 p.m. The classical comedy Kyogen theatre performance will be led by Japanese Living National Treasure Mansaku Nomura.
• The Bay Area-based performance company inkBOAT and Japanese butoh master Ko Murobushi will present The Crazy Cloud Collection at 9 p.m. on Saturday, May 12. The collaborative performance piece conjures the ghost of a 15th century Japanese Zen monk, Ikkyu Sojun, known for provocative, biting and unorthodox poetry.

All performances will be at the Marines' Memorial Theatre, 609 Sutter Street. The San Francisco International Arts Festival, now in its ninth year, includes 46 events at five venues from May 2 to May 20. Mansaku-no Kai's appearance offers a rare opportunity to experience authentic Kyogen theatre outside of Japan. Kyogen, one of four forms of traditional Japanese theatre, is performed on a wooden floor called a shosadai that will be shipped from Tokyo to honor the aesthetics of the 600-year-old art form.

To learn more, visit the Mansaku-no Kai page, the inkBoat page or the festival website at www.sfiaf.org The Dilena Takeyama Center thanks Professor of Theatre Arts Yukihiro Goto for helping to make the discounts possible.

Campus Recreation will host Summer Swim Lessons for youth and adults beginning June 11. Lessons will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 12:40 p.m., Monday through Thursday and Saturdays. Visit the Campus Recreation Summer Swim Web page for more information and to register.
