Assistant Professor of Communication Studies Javon Johnson served as a mentor poet at Modesto's signature poetry slam invitational, The Ill List.
Music
The Serge Koussevitzky Music Foundation in the Library of Congress awarded Professor of Music Theory and Composition and Morrison Artist Series Artistic Director Richard Festinger a commission for a new musical composition for string quartet. The foundation and Canada's Afiara Quartet, which will present performances of the new work, jointly granted the commission. Festinger is one of only four composers to be selected for the honor.
