Creative Arts
Assistant to the Director of Technical Services Diana Rumjahn's film Determined Spirits, earned a film award nomination at the Film Festival Varazdin in Croatia.

Creative Writing
Chair and Professor of Creative Writing Maxine Chernoff's new Omnidawn chapbook, To Be Read in the Dark, debuted Sept. 15 at a reading in Moe's Bookstore in Berkeley.

Professor of Creative Writing Michelle Carter's play, Patience Worth, was commissioned by the Symmetry Theatre Company and opened Sept. 9 at Thick House in San Francisco.

Foreign Languages and Literatures
Associate Professor of Foreign Languages and Arabic Program Coordinator Mohammad Salama spoke about "Islam, Orientalism and Intellectual History: Modernity and the Politics of Exclusion since Ibn Khaldun" at the University of California, Berkeley's Center for Middle Eastern Studies 2011 lecture series on Sept. 15.

Unit Head of Collection Acquisition Management Joan E. Borrelli's short story, "Terra Ferma: A Fragment," was published in the spring 2011 issue of Voices in Italian Americana (VIA vol. 22, no. 1).

Philosophy
