Creative Arts
Professor of Broadcast and Electronic Communication Arts Marty Gonzales was inducted into the Silver Circle of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, Northern California Chapter on Oct. 23. The Silver Circle recognizes broadcasting professionals with more than 25 years in the field.

The work of Assistant Professor of Photography Matt Lipps is featured in this month's issue of Modern Painters in a story about hot shots and rising stars in the field.

Ethnic Studies
Associate Professor and Chair of American Indian Studies Andrew Jolivette gave a keynote address at the Critical Mixed Race Studies conference at DePaul University in Chicago on Nov. 6.

Health Education
Associate Professor of Health Education Ramón Castellblanch gave a presentation titled "Comparative Effectiveness Research and Prescription Drugs" on Nov. 9 at the American Public Health Association's annual meeting.

Professor of Health Education and Director of the Institute for Holistic Healing Studies Erik Peper presented the invited enrichment talk, "Expanding Biofeedback with Touch and Imagery," at the 36th Annual Conference of the Biofeedback Society of California on Nov. 6.

A new revised edition of the book Make Health Happen by Erik Peper, K.H. Gibney and C.F. Holt, was recently published in Japan.

Recreation Parks and Tourism
Associate Professor of Recreation Parks and Tourism Nina Roberts presented, "Cultural competency and your agency: What stage are you in?" at the National Recreation and Park Association Congress held in Minneapolis from Oct. 25 to 29.

Nina Roberts and Assistant Professor of Recreation, Parks and Tourism Jackson Wilson presented "Youth Leaders in Adventure Recreation: Cultural Connections with Urban Teens," at the National Recreation and Park Association Congress in Minneapolis.

Urban Studies and Planning
On Oct. 30, the Urban Planning Society of China and the Jin Jing-Chang Planning Foundation presented Professor Emeritus of Urban Studies and Planning Richard LeGates with an award for the best article in a Chinese planning journal in 2009. The article, co-authored by Tingwei Zhang of the University of Illinois, Chicago, appeared in the Chinese in Urban Forum, published by Tongji University in Shanghai and was based on their keynote speech at the fourth International Association for China Planning conference held in Nanjing in June 2009.
