Riding the wave
An Aug. 26 Half Moon Bay Review article profiled Assistant Professor of Geosciences Tim Janssen and his research on rogue waves. Janssen, who lives near Half Moon Bay, recently published a paper that examined how waves were affected by underwater topography such as reefs or shoals. Janssen, who is also an avid surfer, joined SF State’s faculty in 2008. When I got to California the first thing I had on my mind was that I had to learn to surf,” he said. “I never regretted that.

Crowded classes
An Aug. 26 San Francisco Chronicle article captured the scene outside Professor of Accounting Scott Jerris' classroom on the first day of classes. Students filled the hallway in front of the classroom trying to find an extra spot in the class. "I've been a college teacher for 26 years, and I have never seen anything like this today," he said. "It's frustrating for the students, and it's heartbreaking for me."
