Anthropology
Professor of Anthropology Bernard Wong's paper "Immigration, Globalization, and the Chinese American Family” was published in "Immigrant Families in Contemporary Society" (Guilford Press, New York). In October, he attended the 12th International Metropolis Conference in Melbourne, Australia, to present a paper titled "Immigrants Shaping the New Economy."

Art
Professor of Art Sylvia Solochek Walters received a $350 award for her print, “Sunday Afternoon at Ballena Bay,” in November at Prints USA 2007, a national, biennial competitive exhibition in Springfield, Mo. Her work is on display at the Springfield Art Museum through Jan. 6, 2008.

Design and Industry
Yu-Charn Chen, professor of design and industry, recently presented the paper “Transportation Technology in the United States” to the National Taiwan Science Education Council and the paper “Tenure and Promotion Criteria among the University of California, California State University and the Community Colleges in California” to the Taiwan Department of Education.

In July, Assistant Professor of Product Design Hsiao-Yun Chu taught a master class in design at Chung Yuan Christian University in Taiwan.

Library Science
Mira Foster and Pam Howard, senior assistant librarians at the J. Paul Leonard Library, presented "Next Generation Research Tools" at the California Library Association Conference in Long Beach on Oct. 26 and at the Internet Librarian Conference in Monterey on Oct. 27. The presentations introduced participants to a variety of Web 2.0 applications, including map mashups, photo sharing, blogging, tagging and clipping sites, and how to integrate Web-based tools into typical research assignments.

Theatre Arts
Barbara Damashek, assistant professor of theatre arts, directed "Old Wicked Songs" at the Marin Theatre Co. and "Laughter on the 23rd Floor" at the Center Repertory Theatre.
