SF State a top college for Latinos
June 14, 2011 -- SF State is among the top 100 higher education institutions for Latino students according to the U.S. Department of Education's National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) and Hispanic Outlook magazine.

In 2010, the University awarded 848 baccalaureates and 145 master's degrees to Hispanic students. Based on these records, Hispanic Outlook magazine ranks SF State 26th in the nation for undergraduate degrees awarded to Hispanics and 53rd for master's degrees. The number of Hispanic students attending SF State has grown steadily over the past 10 years, from 15.9 to 22.5 percent of the total student body.
SF State ranked sixth in the nation for the number of degrees awarded in the field of Hispanic Studies. The College of Ethnic Studies conferred 69 degrees in Raza studies in the 2010-11 academic year, the largest number in the college's 42-year history.
"It is an honor to be recognized consistently as one of the best and most welcoming universities for Latino students," said SF State President Robert A. Corrigan. "Students from throughout the state, particularly Southern California, are drawn to our wide-ranging curriculum and a nationally recognized community service learning program, which allows them to apply their coursework and gain experience in Latino communities."
More than 95 percent of the institutions on Hispanic Outlook's top 100 colleges list awarded more bachelor's degrees to female Hispanic students than male. In 2010 the total number of SF State female Hispanic graduates was nearly double the number of Hispanic male graduates.
