Video update from Whirlwind Wheelchair in Haiti
Sept. 16, 2010 -- Recovery efforts continue in Haiti where SF State's Whirlwind Wheelchair program is providing mobility to people injured in the Jan. 12, 2010 earthquake.
So far, 350 patients with spinal cord injuries and amputations have received Whirlwind's RoughRider wheelchair, designed specifically for the rough terrain found in developing countries. An additional 360 chairs will arrive in Haiti later this fall.
Whirlwind's work in Haiti is captured in a video report, which features patients receiving RoughRiders and trying out their new wheels for the first time.
